Rodrigo spoke after the game against Real Valladolid at Mestalla
Rodrigo spoke after the 1-1 draw with Real Valladolid, in which he missed his first penalty since 2014, and expressed his thoughts on the team's performance and the result.
"I think that the team had a great game today. It's obvious that we aren't being very effective in our finishing in front of goal; that's been the case all season, but especially today," he explained.
On the decision to take the spot kick, rather than regular penalty taker Dani Parejo, he said that:"I apologise to my teammates for having missed the penalty. I'd been practicing penalties over the past few weeks, and goals give you confidence -especially if you're a striker. I thought that it was the ideal opportunity to help the team. It wasn't to be. The team did a fantastic job, and if I hadn't missed the penalty then I think the team would have taken the three points."
"In the first half we had three clear chances. We also had some in the second half. I think we're working well, but in the end our lack of finishing in front of goal is what is costing us."
"I don't think that the coach is getting carried away with the situation. He's trying to turn the situation around. In the end, a coach can only do so much; they can't take the penalty for me, finish off chances or defend set pieces," concluded the striker.
