Valencia CF played versus Real Betis Balompié in the Copa del Rey semi-finals first leg at the Benito Villamarín at 9 pm which will also be the hosting ground of the Copa del Rey final which will take place in Seville on the 25th of May.
Valencia CF had a slow start to the match with Real Betis Balompié enjoying plenty of the ball and Valencia CF waiting to hit on the counter-attack. Rodrigo Moreno had the first chance of the match following brilliant intricate play but his effort was turned behind by the keeper.
Moments later, Santiago Mina had a double chance first with a great header which was tipped onto the crossbar and then with a forceful effort which was pushed behind for a corner by the Real Betis goalkeeper to keep it at 0-0.
Loren Morón made it 1-0 to Real Betis Balompié heading it past Jaume Doménech from close range on the stroke of half-time and against the run of play. The first half finished 1-0 to Real Betis Balompié.
Valencia CF came out in the second half looking to make it 1-1 to get the away goal advantage in the tie. Santiago Mina had the first chance with a downward header and then, firing over five minutes into the second half.
Real Betis Balompié made it 2-0 through Joaquin Sánchez off of a corner kick with a banana effort that went in and it was given after a VAR review.
Valencia CF pulled one back through Denis Cheryshev headed in following a great run and return ball by Kevin Gameiro with 20 minutes of normal time left to play, a great away goal advantage in the tie.
Denis Cheryshev came close to grabbing his second of the night with a free header against the crossbar the 6-yard box following a great run and delivery but it was the latter who made it two apiece with a tap-in after a textbook counter-attack to grab a last gasp goal ahead of the second leg which will take place at Mestalla on the 28th of February at 9 pm kick-off time.
Valencia CF will play against Real Sociedad on Sunday the 10th of February at 4.15 pm at Mestalla on matchday 23 of LaLiga Santander.
