Players preview cup semifinal against Betis

There is excitement among the squad about the Copa del Rey encounter

Valencia CF have a big week ahead, with their sights set on a positive result on Thursday in the Copa del Rey semifinal first leg against Real Betis (9:00pm CET). Before their trip to the Benito Villamarín -also the venue for the final of the competition this year- members of the squad talked about the challenge ahead.

"We're coming into this tie at a good time to be facing Betis, but they are a team who also have good players. We have to prepare well for the match in order to beat them," said Geoffrey Kondogbia after he returned from injury in the LaLiga match against FC Barcelona.

"We have some important games coming up. The Copa del Rey is next and we have to continue to be aware of the difficulties that we are going to encounter, but working at such a high level gives us confidence and strength to be where we are," added goalkeeper Neto.

The Brazilian has yet to feature in the cup, as Jaume Domenech has been favoured between the sticks in the competition. He highlighted the importance of the outcome of the draw.

"Any opposition would have been difficult, but the determining factor for us is that we will play the second leg at Mestalla," he explained. "Betis are a well organised team with set ideas, and they will be motivated by the fact that the final is being held at their home ground, but we are highly convinced about our chances. Playing the return leg at Mestalla is very important."

"It's going to be a very tight tie, but we have our strengths and we have to focus on ourselves. We need to continue the dynamic that we are on. We all know what this year means for Valencia CF and the responsibility that we have. It would be a big thing to reach a final and offer something nice to the fans."

Valencia CF First Team Director of Organisation, Voro, commented that "It is a challenge and we are motivated to be back at the Benito Villamarín on May 25th. Football is getting more and more evenly matched, we are seeing surprises and anything can happen.     We are very driven to play this tie and to reach the final."
