Marcelino: "We dominated after the sending off"

The VCF coach reviews his side's progress in the UEFA Europa League

His side safely through to the next round of the UEFA Europa League, Marcelino García Toral spoke in a press conference after the win against Celtic.

Progressing to the next round

“We are satisfied about going through, although I didn’t like the first 35 minutes at all. We have to consider it logical, when you have as favourable a result as a 0-2 scoreline from the first leg, that there is some relaxation that sneaks in. Our opposition were the better side at that stage, but after the sending off we dominated and had chances to score more goals.”

Ezequiel Garay’s injury

“Unfortunately, I think that we’re going to be without him for a while. Whe you only have two centre backs available and you play them both, you don’t have another option when something like that happens. We have one player suspended and another injured. I was treating this game with importance and I don’t regret the decision to play Garay. We try to avoid injuries, but when you’ve had two games a week since September, unfortunately these things happen. Maybe we’ll have Gabriel Paulista and Rodrigo back for the game against Leganés on Sunday; that game is important.”

The Last 16 draw

“Which team would I prefer to face? What I do know is that I don’t want to face another Spanish side, as we all know each other from LaLiga. Of the others, whoever is drawn against us is welcomed. Whoever the opponents, we are going to be motivated to go through to the next round of the UEFA Europa League.”

Kang In

“In order to play Kang In, I have to take another player out, and at the moment I have six players for the wings. If he deserves to play, he will play. Everything that he can offer is welcome. Time will tell what decisions will be made, with us always trying to be fair. For example, Ferran took time, gradually came into the squad and is getting better every day. It’s what you have to do with a young player. How many clubs have an 18 year old playing for them?
